La Quinta Pet Policy: Everything You Need to Know

Traveling and enjoying time away from work and responsibilities is one of the best things that you can do. Vacations can help you relieve stress, spend time with your family, and get some sun. Even if you’re not looking for a vacation spot and have to travel for work, there’s no harm in choosing a high-quality hotel that offers plenty of amenities. One of our favorite destinations, especially if you’re a pet lover, is La Quinta.

La Quinta is one of the few hotel chains that makes it easy to bring your pet with you. They allow pets to stay with you in your room and can even accompany you to several locations on the grounds. That said, bringing your pet to La Quinta isn’t as simple as calling up and bringing your pack of eight dogs.

The good news is that if you want to learn more about La Quinta’s pet policy, you’re in the right place. Read on to learn more about what you can do with your pet at La Quinta Resorts.

What Is La Quinta?

La Quinta, or La Quinta by Wyndham, is a hotel chain that operates in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Honduras. It’s one of the largest hotel chains in the world, with almost 1,000 locations and almost 10,000 employees. Sam Barshop opened the first location in 1968 in San Antonio, Texas.

While the hotel chains remained in his hands for a while, it was acquired by Blackstone in 2005 and then Wyndham in 2018. Currently, La Quinta is a great hotel chain that you can stay at for a great price. Plus, the hotel chain is one of the few hotels that welcomes cats and dogs with open arms.

What Amenities Does La Quinta Offer?

The hotel is known for being affordable for middle-class travelers, and it’s not uncommon for some businesses to host events or have people stay there for business trips. You can expect to find a television in your room, clean rooms, and most locations in the US have a pool on the property. Depending on the weather of the region, the pool may or may not be open when you stay there. Most La Quinta locations also provide you with free WiFi, room service, and stocked mini-fridges.

Some La Quinta locations also have breakfast areas where you can enjoy a meal or purchase food and fitness centers where you can exercise.

What Is La Quinta’s Pet Policy?

La Quinta is flexible with their pet policy but the company does have a few standards. When you’re staying in a room, you can bring up to two domestic pets with you per room. This means that if you and your family are staying in a single room, you can bring two pets with you. However, if you have two rooms, you can bring up to four pets with you.

Another part of La Quinta’s pet policy is that animals that stay in your room can’t exceed 75 pounds, and this includes both animals. For example, you can have two smaller dogs that weigh 20 pounds each, but two dogs that weigh 40 pounds each would put you over that limit.

You also have to consider cleaning schedules and coordinate with the staff if you need any cleaning accommodation. The staff can’t clean your room when your pet is present, so it’s important to schedule times with them to allow them to clean the room. They won’t clean up after your animal, so make sure they don’t make a mess.

It’s also important to note that La Quinta’s pet policy does change based on the type of pet that you’re bringing and not all pets are welcome. For example, La Quinta only allows cats and dogs to stay in their hotels. To bring your pets to La Quinta, you’ll have to confirm with the front desk, and it’s best to tell them ahead of purchasing a room. However, you can notify the front desk upon arrival. Make sure you leave a contact number with the front desk in case they have to contact you about your pet.

What Is La Quinta’s Policy on Dogs?

La Quinta’s policy on dogs is simple compared to most hotels. As long as the dog is quiet, friendly, and doesn’t vandalize property, La Quinta doesn’t have too many rules for dogs to follow. The biggest thing to note is that dogs have to be under your control when you leave the room. This means that they’ll have to be on a leash, in a harness, or in a carrier. If you don’t follow these rules the staff can use their discretion and ask you to leave the premises.

When it comes to dogs going to the bathroom, La Quinta recommends going for walks where the dog can go to the bathroom outside and off La Quinta property. If your dog does go to the bathroom on the property, you need to clean it up.

What Is La Quinta’s Policy on Cats?

La Quinta’s policy on cats is a simple one. The hotel chain recommends that you bring a cat carrier with you to transport your animal, which is the best way to get around the lobby and hallways until you reach your room. Otherwise, the rules are similar for cats and dogs with the key difference being how cleaning is handled. While dogs can go on walks to go to the bathroom, this isn’t the case for cats. For this reason, La Quinta requires you to bring a litter box for your cat.

Where Can Pets Go at La Quinta Hotels?

Pets can accompany you in the main lobby, your room, and hotel hallways. There aren’t many limitations on where your pets can go, so it’s not something you have to worry too much about. The biggest limitation is that your pets can’t get too close to the pool. Furthermore, they can’t go in the pool or enter some of the hotel’s more private facilities. This means that you can’t take your pet with you to breakfast areas or fitness centers as well.

La Quinta also recommends keeping your dog on a leash if you bring a dog with you. As for other types of pets, the staff recommends keeping them in your room to avoid problems. Where pets can and can’t go at La Quinta can also depend on the location, so make sure you contact the hotel before you plan your trip.

What Is La Quinta’s Policy for Service Dogs?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has specific policies for service dogs that all public and private locations must follow. This includes La Quinta, so the hotel chain’s policies are the same as service dog policies elsewhere. This means that service dogs are allowed on the property and that you don’t have to pay any additional fees to have a service dog with you. Service dogs also don’t have to follow rules about where they can go. While they can’t go in the pool, they can go to the fitness center, breakfast area, and anywhere else in the hotel.

That said, you need to have the proper paperwork for this to happen properly, so make sure your service dog is registered and that you’re prepared to present it when people from La Quinta ask about your documents. It’s also important to note that these laws don’t apply in some of the other countries that La Quinta operates in. Therefore, you might not be met with the same disability accommodations in other countries. Still, since La Quinta has the majority of its locations in the United States, there’s a good chance that there will still be many service dog accommodations available.

What Is La Quinta’s Policy for Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)?

La Quinta’s policy for emotional support animals is about the same as its policy for other pets. This means that you’ll have to pay the fee and follow the two-pet limit per room. When it comes to ESAs the hotel might have some leeway depending on the type of animal, their weight, and how many pets you have. Always call ahead to see if the La Quinta you plan on staying at has the accommodations you need for your ESA.

What Is La Quinta’s Policy for Therapy Dogs?

La Quinta’s policy for therapy dogs is about the same as its policy for pets and ESAs. This means that you’ll have to pay the travel fee for the animal to go with you, and you’ll have to stay under the 75-pound weight limit and two-pet policy. You might get special treatment at some La Quinta locations if you bring a therapy dog, so we always recommend calling ahead to see if you qualify for any additional accommodations.
